Pajama Party: Fourth beach party film moves inside, changes director and megastar (albeit Frankie Avalon and Don Rickles do have cameos). Kirk plays an alien adolescent who drops in and is understandably confused. Just fair, albeit it’s unconditionally fine to see Keaton at work. Cast includes Tommy Kirk, Annette Funicello, Dorothy Lamour, Elsa Lanchester, Harvey Lembeck, Jody McCrea, Buster Keaton, Susan Hart, and Donna Loren. (85 minutes, 1984)
Marie Antoinette: Visually sumptuous account of an adolescent’s voyage from Vienna to the Palace at Versailles and the throne of France. Author-director Coppola’s Marie (as played by Dunst) is a modern-day gal, with contemporary music set contrary to the pomp and circumstance of the 18th century life. Starts to tire eventually and ends with a cry, not a smash although there’s much to like here. Cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Tear Tom, Steve Coogan, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon, Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, Marianne Faithfull, Mary Nighy, and Sarah Adler. Rocky Balboa: Title personality, now a 6O-ish widower and eatery owner who’s disassociated from his business yuppie child (Ventimiglia), plans to re-enter the ring one last timeto battle the present heavyweight Champ. Not as poor as it may have been, even though it strains credibility; contrived, to be certain, although additionally curiously admiring. A number of ESPN-type Television identities appear as their selves. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Burt Youthful, Milo Ventimiglia, Geraldine Hughes, James Francis Kelly Sick, Tony Burton, A. J. The Educators: A verbose and overlong, sarcastic investigation of partisan idealism and hypocrisy in current Germany. A set of boisterous youthful liberals (Briihl, Erceg) see themelves as 21st-century Robin Hoods, which gives them a reprieve to crack into the houses of the internet-heeled Problems surface while Erceg’s lady friend (Jentsch) partakes in one of their adventures.
