Sidewalks of New York: A light hearted comedy in regards to lhe romantic entanglements of a group of New Yorkers. The film has an unmistakable Woody Allen-ish feel, although Burns’ script is no match for Allen. The Buddy System: Desolate baby tries to play matchmaker between his lone mommy and a grown-up buddy, could-be novelist and tool creator Dreyfuss, however there are spiritual problems. For Love of Ivy: A family desires to keep their servant, so they find her a man tokeep her happy. The film is a ho-hum black romance at best. Cast includes Sidney Poitier, Abbey Lincoln, Guy Bridges, Leon Bibb, Nan, Martin, Lauri Peters, and Carroll O’Connor. (102 minutes, 1968)
Heart like a Wheel: Well-made although curiously uninspiring bio of race-car driver Shirley each other and much discussion is unintelligible to American ears (albeit if you might make it through the first reel, hang on). Jupiter’s Darling: Lavish musical of Robert Sherwood’s Street to Rome, which weighs down in boredom. Williams is a temptress who dallies with Hannibal (Keel) to stop an attack on Rome. The Shadow: Lamont Cranston, having lived a life of ethical degradation, is “reborn” as a singleminded crimefighter with the talent to haze gentlemen’s minds. This adaptation of the venerable mush novels and cherished stereo show (carried to the theaters before in the late 1930s, and in a 1940 serial comes frustratingly close to performing, although flounders. Cranston is both inscrutable and boring. Incredible production layout and wonderful outcomes get lost in a film that keeps the viewer at Ann’s magnitude all the way through. What a waste of an awesome supporting cast! Cast includes Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen, Tim Curry, Jonathan Winters, and Sab Shimono. (105 minutes, 1994)
The Bullfighters: One of more superior Laural and Hardy later works, engaging false identity as Stan is a lookalike for renowned matador. Things really get funny when Stan is thrown in with the bull.
