Crossing Over the Bridge

August 18th, 2009 by James Pyn, under Movies. No Comments

It’s no surprise that we live in a world of tag lines. They can teach you a great deal about life. Not only are they the pithy currency of would-be screenwriters and filmmakers alike, but they are semi-clever marketing slogans. That being said, I must say the tag line for BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA is actually dead on. Watching the film (or better yet, reading the book) will indeed help you discover a place that will never leave you, and a friendship that will change you forever. True enough — and well said.

The film is a shining example of how a novel should and could be adapted for the screen, even when you take the minor plot adjustments into consideration. The film was written by David Paterson, who is the son of the novel’s author, Katherine Paterson. As previously mentioned, it was faithfully adapted and lovingly brought to life. This is in no small way an indication of both Csupo and Paterson’s dedication to the tenements of the novel.

The story revolves around two 12-year-old friends who create a world they can escape to — a world of their own making. This virtual kingdom was stunningly depicted by the conceptual artist Dima Malanitchev and brought tot life by the effects wizards at Weta Digital. The director, Csupo, insisted the look and feel of the fantastic elements be realistic and keeping in line with a greater sense of subtlety.

Filmed in New Zealand, the film manages to balance itself between the real-life aspect of everyday life and the imaginative world of the main characters, Jesse Aarons, played by Josh Hutcherson, and Leslie Burke, played by AnnaSophia Robb. These relative newcomers provide a convincing and moving portrait of young friendship and possibly the budding of young love. Their performances are not to be missed.

Completed for approximately $20 million, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA garnered more than $120 million worldwide, designating it as something of a rarity: a hit. The film virtually swept the Young Artist Awards, sponsored by the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It is a film that can be enjoyed by both young and old audiences. Indeed, as another of its tag lines suggests: close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open.

Set It Off Movie Review

August 16th, 2009 by Johnnie Logan, under Movies. No Comments

Stick up a bank? Sure, why not. And the Set It Off movie cast was selecteded perfectly to imitate four girlfriends who, after being messed up by the system and have nothing to lose, decide to get into the bank robbing industry.

The Set It Off movie Cast includes a HOT Vivica Fox as Frankie, who was recently fired from her bank-teller job for a real BS reason and is pissed at society. She gets to kick some major bootie in this film.

Kimberly Elisa plays Tisean, a single mother that has lost her son to child welfare until she can come up with the money she needs to pay for child care while she cleans offices.

Queen Latifah plays Cleo, a raucous, pot-smoking lesbian, who is continuously up for messing around.

And super fiery Jada Pinkett plays Stony, who is in shock after the cops slay her brother in a occurrence of mistaken identity, and she simply wants the funds to get out. ‘I want to be somebody who doesn’t have to do this crap,’ she says.

So the girls obtain guns, learn to fire, put on wigs and sunglasses that make their bad old selves look like young Tina Turner clones, and set off into the bank-robbing business ‘ they experience success, which unsurprisingly leaves them wanting more.

Set It Off is funny, action packed, smart and witty. The group of four four carry out a wacky Godfather riff, and Cleo, swaggers and whoops ‘ she’s a full-size, noisy, outrageous bundle of walking black female. In the beginning, the heist business is only a way to get elsewhere, but as their greed overtakes their better way of thinking and their chief pursuer ( John McGinley) closes in on their fantasy world, realty sets in and sends the show in a tragic direction.

If you’re looking for a showto watch with your girlfriend or boyfriend, the Set It Off showis perfect! Both men and women will like this show Men will love the action and women will understand and enjoy the bond these four girls maintain and what drives them. Women (and perhaps a number of men) will furthermore enjoy the subplot romance involving Stony and a banker played by Blair Underwood.

You can currently get the Set It Off movie on Blu-ray, which makes it an astounding high-definition film watching experience!

The Set It Off soundtrack rocks and is a ideal fit for the film, featuring artists such as Bone Thugs N Harmony, Seal, Busta Rhymes, of course Queen Latifah and even a cameo by Gladys Knight in the song Missing You. Even if you don’t like the picture, the Set It Off soundtrack alone is worth it. It’s a splendid compilation of music.

Bass Lessons: Learn At Home

August 12th, 2009 by Chris Ghiaciuc, under Movies. No Comments

If you are interested to learn bass tabs, you should know that the process of you getting to learn bass online is really going to be the best option, because this will make the entire process as easy and convenient for you as possible.

However, the bass guitar is one of the most important ingredients to any band. The bass guitar is the glue, which holds the music of the band together. As such, bass guitar players are always in good demand in any band. Still, it takes several years of constant and sincere practice to become an excellent bass guitar player.

Also if you learn bass online, you can do it in privacy and not have to worry about others seeing you let’s say if you are not that good and not confident and would rather get good at it before playing in front of other people.

The frets are just small metal strips arranged from top to bottom. The strings and the frets form a grid type structure. If you keep your finger on a fret situated higher, the note generated would also be higher. In general, each fret is designed to produce a half-step higher note than the previous one. The headstock at the top of the bass guitar contains the four tuning pegs. The tuning pegs assist you in adjusting the pitch of the strings.

If you decide to learn to play bass guitar for free you will probably need to find yourself some free bass guitar tabs on the internet. There are many places that offer bass tabs for popular songs. Another option for the bass guitar student on a budget is YouTube. If you go looking for online bass lessons on video you will probably find about a thousand clips, all offering something of value to the beginner.

This helps the other fingers to float over the strings without strain. It would be better to trim the fingernails so that they do not interfere when you press down on the strings. You should always press between the frets and not on them. Initially, you might get blisters while starting to learn how to play bass guitar, but after a few days, the fingers would develop thicker skin and become stronger. At the starting, practice the fretting of strings with each finger separately, so that all the fingers are evenly strengthened.

All you need to do is sign up and create an account with the company, and once your account is activated you will immediately be able to get any lessons you want for free.

This is another fantastic option when it comes to getting to learn bass online. They offer lots of information in their lessons, through which you will learn how to tune your guitar by ear so that this eventually becomes second in nature, all finger positions and techniques for different songs, a video of an expert playing each song, and you can even listen to how the whole track should sound or hear it note by note so that you can compare your playing and make sure that you are getting it just right.

Following the Struggle of Four Strong Women

Through the six series we are introduced to the many issues that modern women face. Though they may have more freedom in terms of careers and money, this comes at a price.

By far the biggest story of the series is the relationship between Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Big (Chris Noth). Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), the pragmatic attorney, always struggled with her own self confidence and direction in life. This is shown throughout the hilarious yet thoughtful portrayal of her pregnancy and motherhood after season 4, and especially in her on and off relationship with her husband Steve (David Eigenberg).

And not much needs to be said about Samantha (Kim Cattrall) ” the promiscuous, career-hungry woman who isnt afraid to take exactly what she wants from life. Not to mention the fact that shes helped women all over the world be proud to say Im forty-f*****g-five!

Sex And The City – The Characters

August 11th, 2009 by Lola Jasminia, under Movies. No Comments

If you’re going to watch Sex And The City to try to figure out exactly what “style” the main character, Carrie Bradshaw, is, then forget it. Carrie has no set “Style” and you’ll just drive yourself insane. As the most fashion-forward member of the group, Carrie’s closet contains an eclectic mix of vintage, retro, Gap and haute couture. The mix is quite outrageous and extremely fun! Featuring Manolos almost constantly, Carrie also offers up a different signature fashion statement every season. Beginning with her nameplate necklace in season 1 and continuing on with flower pins, Fendi bags, gloves, hats…..

One of Carrie’s dearest friends, Samantha Jones is a high-powered PR executive by day – wearing beautiful, designer suits of vivid colors with figure hugging styles. In the evening, though, watch out as Sam changes into her TRUE colors to show the vixen that she really is!

Another of Carrie’s dear friends, Miranda Hobbes, chooses to dress a little more professionally during the day. As an attorney, her position calls for smart, dark suits, and she wears them very well. She prefers sneakers and sweats on the weekends but in the evening, watch out! This redhead is a real knockout!

Charlotte York is perhaps the most prim and proper of the group. Her perfectly coordinated pastels reflect her Park Avenue lifestyle. Always crisp and refreshing, she sometimes appears grim in her fashion taste. But we all know the truth, don’t we? Watch out Atlantic City!

And what about the men of Sex And The City? Certainly no discussion of the characters would be complete without including Mr. Big. Although his first name is finally revealed in the final episode, and we also learn his full name in the movie, we’ll still call him Mr. Big. And being the successful New York businessman that he is, we see him most of the time in Armani….or nothing!

I don’t know how Miranda was able to resist Steve Brady for so long! Those beautiful blue eyes behind those glasses get me every time! Jeans and a T-shirt are his attire of choice and I think we only see him in a suit a couple of times throughout the whole series. In fact, the first suit he wears, Miranda has to buy for him!

Harry! Poor Harry. He’s short, bald, hairy and has no social graces to speak of. But he’s an attorney and he wears his suits well….when he wears them. And he’s madly in love with Charlotte! Preferring to stroll around the apartment au natural, he does concede to Charlotte and don a pair of boxers in order to protect the white sofa.

And, finally, there’s Smith. Samantha’s man. Jerry Jerrod. As far as I’m concerned, this man is like the English Leather man…he can wear English Leather…or nothing at all! An aspiring actor when Sam meets him, she changes his name and uses a little of her PR magic to make him into one of the most sought after dishes in New York!

Sharpe Author’s ‘Agincourt’ Due To Be Adapted For Film

August 10th, 2009 by Jon Hunter, under Movies. No Comments

The latest book by Bernard Cornwell author of the Sharpe series of Novels is due to be adapted into a film. ‘Agincourt’ Bernard’s latest book unsurprisingly focuses in on the events around the 1415 battle through the eyes of English Archer Thomas Hook.

Based in London the Independent Film Co. has commissioned Michael Hirst to adapt the book for film, Michael has a track record in historical fiction creating the Tudors TV series, and writing the screenplays for the films Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

The book has done remarkably well selling over 200,000 copies in the first 3 months in the UK and spending over 4 weeks on the New York times best sellers list. It is not he first of Bernard Cornwells books to be adapted with his Richard Sharpe character having over 15 TV films made, 12 of them based (sometimes much to loosely.) on his books set in the Napoleonic era .

Agincourt has had virtually no film exposure outside films of Henry V, but it is a battle where the small English army of archers defeated a much larger French army of knights. Up to10,000 French died with a supposed loss of only 112 English casualties. It has also been claimed as being the battle which brought about the death of chivalry in Europe, and is believed to have been the origination of the English two fingered salute.

The film has a budget of a very modest $35 million, and is rumoured to start shooting in 2011, cast and location at this point are not known.

A French release for the film is currently deemed unlikely. We are also awaiting a release date of St Crispin’s day which was the date of the battle in 1415, but that may prove be hard for the production company.

Best Tips In Buying Your HDTV

August 10th, 2009 by Audri Whites, under Movies. No Comments

If you are one of the people who envy those who already have that high definition entertainment on their home, then don’t be. With a little savings and tightening of your budget, you’ll be able to buy one for yourself, plus the not so old models are continuously dropping the value of their price tags, so that would be a great chance to grab. But before anything else, here are some of the most important factors to consider so you’ll be sure that your money will all be worth it.

First, you have to set a budget for it and should stick to it as possible as you can. So as not to overspent, you can do a little bit of researching and list down the features that you need to have for an HDTV that would fit for the budget that you have allocated for it.

Next is the picture quality. Not because it’s a high definition unit means that it’s all perfect. You have to check first if the quality is “ok” enough for you, or you prefer more than that. Of course, every added quality would mean a price.

Next to picture quality is the size of the HDTV that you are going to buy. Be sure to measure the location where you’ll put the unit so that you will not commit the mistake of buying the wrong size.

Next thing is to check the unit for some additional features other than watching in a big screen with an HD format. Some of these features could be power saving options, ability to connect to the web, and others.

Also to consider are the ports of your HDTV. Say even if it is a kind of older model of HDTV, it is also considered as a hi-tech unit that should have enough ports on it, since these ports are very much important, so that you can hook up other appliance and gadget, like your Wii to your HDTV.

Lastly, are the products after sales services. So that just in case you encountered some issues with your unit, at least the manufacturer or the retailer could give some free support or warranty.

Tips To Consider Before Buying An HDTV

August 9th, 2009 by Audri Whites, under Movies.

First, allocate a specific budget for it and set your threshold and don’t go beyond that. If you do, you’ll end up not to be satisfied with your unit because you tend to seek for more, and spend more as well.

Second is the picture quality. Be sure that the quality you’ll receive will just be fair with the price you’ve paid for. Since this is all about “high definition” experience, you must be smart enough to know if you have indeed felt or is going to feel that experience with the unit you are to purchase.

Third is the size of the HDTV. Don’t go for a too huge unit then later you’ll think about where to set that up on you house. Just buy the right size that will perfectly fit wherever you intend to put that inside your home.

Another important thing is the added features with the HDTV that you are going to buy. Most of these types have their different features and drawbacks as well. So you better be keen on that.

Also, you should be aware of the different ports that your HDTV has. It should also be used with other appliance like your game console, blu-ray disc player, etc., and certain ports should be present on your HDTV for those appliances to get working.

And lastly are the warranty and the after sales service that you are entitled to. Be sure that the seller offers that kind of services may be for free for a specific period of time. This is also one way of showing not only a quality product, but quality service as well.
